Hello crafters, Preeti here on the Rubbernecker blog today and I have a lot to share with you today. Very often we use the background stamp as just what it is a background stamp. What I mean by that is we used it mostly as a secondary element on our projects. But many times background stamps have wonderful images that can capture the attention and be the main focus of the card, one such background stamp is the Daisy Background stamp. I want to show you different ways to enhance a background stamp with color mediums.
I have kept the explanation to all these cards on this blog post very simple, but I have a video below that explains in detail as how each of the backgrounds were made and then converted into cards.
Card 1 Paper Piecing:
Paper piecing has always been my favorite thing to do even as a little girl I would paper piece images. Paper piecing can sometimes be very time consuming as it requires a lot of fussy cutting and piecing them together. But it is worth the effort and for me it quite therapeutic as i love to fussy cut and I love puzzles.
Stamp the Daisy Background stamp on different designer papers with black and fussy cut the flowers from one of the papers and adhered it to the other with liquid glue.
Stamp the framed Thinking Of You sentiment directly on to a white top folding note card with black ink.
Cut the paper pieced background to fit into the framed sentiment
Adhere the background panel with foam adhesive in the center of the framed sentiment.
Card 2 Zig Watercolor Pens:
Adding bright colors to a background stamp makes it pop right out to the card. Here I used Zig Real Brush Pens in really bright colors to make this card pop.
Start by stamping the Daisy Background stamp with black ink on a Bristol Smooth card stock
Color the flowers using red, orange and yellow colors.
When finished with the flowers color the empty spaces in between the flowers with three shades of blue starting at the bottom with the darkest to the lightest on the top.
Add white dots to the center of the flower with white gel pen.
Emboss the sentiment Make Them Possible on a black card stock with white embossing powder and die cut it using one if the Nested Banner Stitch Die.
tie a bow on the top of the banner with some jute string.
Add clear gemstones around the banner and adhere this finished panel on to a white top folding notecard.
Card 3 Loose Watercoloring:
One of the easiest way to watercolor is loose watercoloring. This form of watercoloring is very relaxing as there are not too many rules to follow.
Emboss the Daisy Background image on a watercolor card stock using white embossing powder.
Spritz the card stock with a lot of water and then drop in the colors of your choice. I used Color Fuse Ink in Fuchsia , Grass and Citrus for this card. Adding a lot of water to the paper helps the colors to bleed and blend.
After you have added all the color and are happy with the look let dry or heat set it with a heat gun to dry it faster and die cut ti with one of the Border #2 Die. I used the straight edge with stitches for this panel.
Place the colored panel on to a top folding white notecard do not adhere it yet as this is only to help you position the sentiment.
Stamp the sentiment in an angle folllowing the angle of the die cut panel in black ink.
Now adhere the colored panel with foam adhesive on to the white notecards. Add a few gem stones around the sentiment.
Card 4 Copic Colors
If you have been following my blog post you know by now how much I love to copic color so of course I had to use it for coloring this stamp.
Stamp the Daisy Background on a copic friendly card stock with gray Color Fuse Ink Chill.
Color the flowers with C3 and C1 for the flower petals, Y11 for the center shading, C9, C7,C5 for the black stamens in the center of the flower and YG03, YG67 for the leaves and the stem.
Die cut a circle from the finished copic colored background and color the empty space around the flowers using R22 R20 and R11. only on the die cut circle.
Adhere the floral panel with a circle cut out on to a top folding white notecard with glue adhesive.
Add foam adhesive to the back of the die cut circled adhere it where the cut out is on the glues panel.
Die cut the sentiment Smile uisng, fun foam, gold glitter card stock and black card stock.Adhere them all together, making sure to off set the black die cut when adhering on the gold glitter card stock.
Card 5 Prisma color Pencils
The look of color pencils on back is pure magic to me. If you have never tried color pencils on dark backgrounds, I encourage you do so and I am hoping you will fall in love with it like me.
Emboss the Daisy Background on a black card stock with gold embossing powder.
Color the flowers in shades of Pink and Aqua. I used Magent, Rose, Deco Pink, Parrot Green, Light Aqua and Light Green
When fished coloring add white dots in the center using white paint pen. I used the white Post paint pen.
Emboss the Happy birthday sentiment from the Birthday Sentiment set with white embossing pos=wder on a black cardstock and cut it into a thin label strip
Using Alphabet stickers in gold spell the word friend and adhere it to the top center of the colored panel.
Adhere the happ birthday sentiment strip above the word friend.
Mount this colored panel on a top folding white notecard.
