Its a beautiful spring day here in NY and as spring approaches its a reminder of new life, the blooming flowers and Mothers Day!! This die from SSS called Outline Mama made me very happy as that is what I call my Mum. This card represents my admiration for my mother. My mother has been a strong force behind me from a very young age and has taught me to hold my head high no matter the circumstances. It was not so much what she said to us but it was in the way she lived her life. My father was almost always absent from our lives because of his job in the Air Force and that kept him deployed for many months and sometimes years, and when he was home he wasn't the greatest human being to be around either. He was very abusive and disrespectful to both my mum and to us kids.
My mother brought us up as a single parent as along as I can remember. Divorce and separation was a taboo in most Indian families then and with no support from any one it was harder. But she was brave and she faced her giants mostly with her faith. My fathers actions never stopped her from getting up after every fall and moving on, or making sure that my brother and I were provided and cared for. My Mama is Powerful, Beautiful and Brave and I have learnt that no matter how hard life gets, you get up and move on and never let the gravity of negativity, pain and darkness pull you down. Her life reminds me that there will always be people or circumstances that will bring us down, but you get up mend your wounds and move on and by mending I mean forgiveness.
The Galaxy in this card represents space where there is no gravity to hold you down and you are free to float as you wish and the Vibrant Colors of the Galaxy represents her power to shine even the darkest of the nights. The Rose represents her beauty and smile that never ceases. That is my MAMA!!!!
Steps to make this card:
Start by stamping and heat embossing the Heart Rose stamp from SSS with gold embossing powder on a black watercolor card stock.
Color the rose with any water color medium you may have, keeping in mind that the color should show up on black card stock. I used Finetec metallic colors. You could even use Gouache which would work well on dark cardstock as well. Spaltter the entire black panel with white paint.
Die cut the black panel with the largest of the SSS Wonky Stitched Rectangle die.
Die cut the shadow of the Mama die with vellum and the word die with gold and white card stock. Adhere the white outline word on to the vellum shadow and inset the word mama within the outline die cut with gold glitter card stock.
Adhere this assembled Mama die with foam adhesive just below the Heart Rose. i addd an additional sentiment form SSS Sentiment Strip #3, Celebrate You.
Mount this finished black card stock to a white top folding white note card.
